Immerse Yourself in Dynamic and Engaged Learning

Southern Utah University’s founders dedicated themselves to inspired education and meaningful student learning, and that spirit continues to the present day. SUU prides itself on practicing experiential learning – hands-on experiences in real-life situations and practical skills that will better prepare students for life after college. Critical thinking, reasoning, decision-making, leading – these are all skills that students learn at SUU through teacher guidance and a modern curriculum. Small class sizes ensure that professors take a personal interest in students’ academic growth and any hurdles they may encounter throughout their time at SUU. The institution instils a culture of community service, global responsibility and lifelong learning in all its students.

Get Involved on Campus

Make new friends on campus by joining one or more of the 160 university clubs offered by SUU. Last year, over 4,000 students joined a club, no matter where your interests lie. Students can find anything from Quidditch to Ceramics, Yoga to Music – with all this choice, you are sure to find an organisation that meets your interests and passions, and enhances your collegiate experience. The SUU Student Association also holds many free student activities throughout the year.  University facilities and activities such as the Fitness Center, Aquatic Center, Climbing Wall and Intramural Sports provide students with opportunities to interact with their peers and learn a new skill.

Giving Back Through Community Service

The SUU Community Engagement Center (CEC) provides many service opportunities to students to take part in – from animal rescues and pantry operations to senior citizen outreach and a Special Olympics Club. The CEC is a vital component of the university as it represents a large part of SUU’s vision and hope to help students understand the intrinsic and extrinsic benefits of giving back to society.

A grand total of 197,000 hours of service was logged last year by SUU students keen to serve their community and the world. The university maintained its Carnegie Community Engagement Classification and was also awarded a place on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the fifth year.

Study Healthcare With the AHEC Program

The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program at SUU is committed to increase the “quality of rural health through leadership, advocacy, coalition building and education”. Through AHEC, youths are encouraged to pursue careers in health care and they receive guidance and training from the program administrators. The SUU chapter of AHEC helps health care students attain clinical rotations in the area and also aids them with organising personal logistics, such as transportation and lodging.

Receive Career Advice and Guidance

Southern Utah University supports its students from day one to even after graduation. The Student Success Advisement department puts students in touch with a dedicated adviser who helps clarify educational goals and guides students through their academic career. The Career Center is also an invaluable resource where students are given useful information and beneficial support on deciding their majors and careers. The school facilitates internship opportunities for students so they can gain practical experience in a work environment and learn about the knowledge and skills required for their chosen field.
