It can be difficult trying to find the best university for you in a location that suits your budget, the lifestyle that you would like to lead and offers the things that you are interested in. Based on the recent study, QS Best Student Cities 2017, here are some worthwhile cities and universities to look at in the US.

The Hub of the Solar System - Boston

If you want a city that has internationally acclaimed universities, a great cultural experience, and is affordable to stay in - then Boston is the place to go! Voted as the eighth best study destination in the study, this is one of the most historic cities in the US. Boston received high ratings for affordability, friendliness, and the ease of getting around.

But what is there to do in Boston? There is something for everyone, no matter your interests. The usual hotspots include the Freedom trail, Fenway Park or the Museum of Fine Arts. If you don’t want to feel like a tourist, then rock out at the Boston Calling music festival, enjoy the beautiful view from the Custom House observation deck or go search for Keytar Bear, a beloved street performer. The Big Apple – New York

A high paced life in the city that never sleeps: New York, came in at the nineteenth place. You will definitely not get bored in New York, as the city received a very high score for having endless things to do. The city is very diverse and offers numerous opportunities, but has unfortunately proved to be a little on the expensive side.  

This is, however, one of those bucket list places to visit. Here are some ideas that won’t cost you an arm and a leg to see: Start off by visiting the Statue of Liberty, Broadway, Times Square, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, or the Socrates Sculpture Park. Lastly, be sure to go for some of their amazing cheesecake at Junior’s Restaurant or Eileen's Special Cheesecake and stop for a street hot dog.

The Home Of ‘Flower Power’ - San Francisco

One of America’s most iconic cities, San Francisco is an affordable and relaxing city to live in. In at twenty-eighth place, the city received especially high scores for employer activity and desirability to stay there.

This is also home to some big movers and shakers in the world such as Apple, Facebook and IBM. Not into technology? Then go to the Golden Gate Bridge, The Walt Disney Family Museum, Ocean Beach, or the Cartoon Art Museum.

San Francisco boasts Stanford, the world’s second best university which is situated close to the city. If Stanford is not for you, but you would like to live in this coastal city, then you can also have a look at the University of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, or the Academy of Art University.

The District - Washington DC

Washington DC is most probably one of the most famous cities in the world and clearly a popular student destination as well, coming in at thirty-seventh place. The city received especially good rankings from students for desirability, and student experience. This comes as no surprise as the capital of the US with numerous famous attractions and iconic political figures.

What is there to do in Washington? Visit the National Cherry Blossom Festival or learn something new at the National Air and Space Museum. Of course, the White House, National Monument and the Lincoln Memorial are also a must-see.

The Windy City - Chicago

Chicago has good music, breath-taking sites and some of the world’s leading universities to offer. No wonder it was rated as the forty-sixth best study destination. Chicago may be a little expensive in terms of cost of living but it certainly makes up for it with high employment activity scores and four QS ranked universities.

As one of the largest cities in America, it is not surprising that there is plenty to do and see in Chicago. Why not go on a Segway tour, visit the Millennium Park, or spend a night out at the Music Box Theatre.
