School Description

The King’s University was envisioned back in 1965 when the need was felt for a regional, trans-denominational, Christian college in Western Canada. The College received its charter on November 16, 1979 when the Alberta Legislature approved The King’s College Act. In 1985, King’s was given an annual operating grant from the Province of Alberta; and in 1987 the University was allowed to grant its first accredited degree – a three year BA in a number of disciplines. The College changed its name to The King’s University College in 1993.

Over the years, the University has grown into a thriving institution. Today, it is home to Leder School of Business and Micah Centre, a Christian interdisciplinary initiative aimed at fostering understanding and action among students and the community at large, around issues such as global poverty, peacemaking, and social justice. Student’s at King's also have the opportunity of global education – they can take a few classes, a semester, or even a year abroad; additionally some of King’s programs such as Business, Politics-History-Economics, and Environmental Studies have built-in internships and travel opportunities. The King’s University Eagles also offer four collegiate level sports programs: basketball, volleyball, soccer and badminton. The Eagles participate in the Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

It was a long time ago when I spent a year at King's, but it came at a time when I needed a way to get started on my post-secondary journey. King's enabled me to do this. I will always be grateful.
