School Description

Alberta School of Business, can trace its roots back to 1916, when the department of Accountancy was established offering a three year course in accountancy and business administration. In 1923 it opened the Commerce Club and in the same year produced its first batch of Bachelor in Commerce graduates. In 1945 the program was developed with more courses such as marketing, finance and personnel management added to it. It also evolved into a four-years Honor degree. In 1960 the School of Commerce became the Faculty of Commerce; at this point the program was developed into a standard four year program, offering specializations beyond accounting. The University conferred its first MBA degrees in 1966.

In 1968 Alberta was the first business school in Canada to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Maintaining its accreditation to date, the University is the longest accredited business school in Canada and hence regarded as one of the world’s leading institutions of business education and research. This year the university celebrates its centennial.
