Great on Communication Skills and Exposure, with Clinical Focus on Teaching
It's a nurturing environment, with lots of extracurricular opportunities and genuine camaraderie between students. Not competitive and back stabby like I've heard about other institutions. Great exposure, given the proximity to a large patient pool and top of their game consultants - particularly neuro, cardiology, oncology, psych and GP. Small group communication skills teaching left me feeling well prepared and confident to handle tense or upsetting situations at work in an empathetic and effective way. You also leave well prepared for analysing medical research and conducting your own audits or clinical trials, and have particularly good exposure to researchers in public health, oncology and embryology. Increasingly over the 5 year course, your lecturers will be clinicians practicing the field they are teaching. There are great opportunities for CV building such as a free course in Biomedical Management run in the evenings. You als have the opportunity to intercalate a degree, or a study module within it, at one of the other London colleges - should you want to experience a broader range of undergraduates and topics e.g. medical law or philosophy. Tooting is also a great place to base yourself as a student with relatively cheap rent and local restaurants compared to other areas in London, whilst easily commutable into central London. I highly recommend being in London as a student. Make use of the theatre discounts and never ending options for culture vultures and party animals alike.
